AC/DC's "Back in Black" stands as the best-selling hard rock album in history, recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau with producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange following Bon Scott's death in February 1980. New vocalist Brian Johnson's debut performance on tracks like "You Shook Me All Night Long" and the title track established the template for arena rock vocals, while the album's seven-week run at #4 on the Billboard 200 proved hard rock's mainstream commercial viability. The recording's distinctive guitar tone, achieved through Marshall amplifiers and minimal overdubs, influenced countless metal and rock bands throughout the 1980s and beyond, with the album certified 25x Platinum in the United States alone.
