Alice Cooper's "Flush The Fashion" marked his controversial pivot toward new wave production, recorded at Cherokee Studios with Roy Thomas Baker applying Queen-style layered vocals and synthesizer textures that alienated his hard rock fanbase. The album's dance-rock experiment "Clones (We're All)" became his first charting single in three years, while tracks like "Pain" showcased drum machines and electronic elements that predicted his 1980s reinvention, though critics dismissed the departure from his theatrical shock-rock identity as commercially calculated rather than artistically motivated.
