Avail's "Dixie" captures the Richmond hardcore band at their melodic peak, recorded at Uncle Punchy Studios in June 1994 during the height of the East Coast punk revival. The album's standout track "Mr. Morgan" became a hardcore anthem with its singalong chorus, while their cover of John Mellencamp's "Pink Houses" transformed the heartland rock classic into a blistering punk statement that bridged mainstream and underground audiences. Released on Lookout! Records during the label's golden era alongside Green Day and Operation Ivy, "Dixie" established Avail as pioneers of the melodic hardcore sound that would influence bands like Hot Water Music and Against Me! throughout the following decade.
